Plants of the Qur’ān wins Award of Excellence
Plants of the Qur’ān has been awarded the 2024 Award of Excellence in Botanical Art and Illustration at the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries (CBHL) Annual Literature Award. The award is given by the CBHL to the author and publisher of a work that makes a significant contribution to the literature of botany or horticulture.
Published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art last year, the book is the first of its kind to explore and highlight the history of the plants mentioned in the Qur’ān. The book is now on its third printing and continues to be a success – a fantastic example of the exhibition’s legacy.
The book is the impressive outcome of the extensive research and diligent efforts of both the author, Dr.Shahina Ghazanfar, and the botanical artist, Sue Wickison.
A collaboration of art and science, the book succeeds in engaging a wide range of audiences with the plant world, and we are honoured it has received this accolade from the CBHL.
